Thinking of relocating to Eastern Europe. Any advice?

Hi everyone!
I'm currently researching options for relocating and running my online business from abroad. I’ve been looking into countries in Eastern Europe. Places like Romania and Bulgaria seem to offer low costs of living and simplified business registration.

Does anyone have any experiences with these countries? I’m still in the planning stage and open to other recommendations too.
Thanks in advance :)

Romania and Bulgaria are definitely solid picks — affordable living, decent internet, and growing expat communities. Romania in particular has great tech infrastructure and some beautiful spots like Cluj or Brașov if you prefer smaller cities.

Cost-wise, Romania and Bulgaria are nearly identical—around $940/month for basics. Rent’s ~$430 in cities. Bulgaria edges out with a 10% corporate tax vs Romania’s 16%. Both have EU market access, but neither offers a digital nomad visa yet. Romania’s slightly better English (31% vs 25%) if that matters for daily stuff.

Internet’s cheap in both (~$9-13/month) and reliable in cities. Healthcare’s okay urban, sketchier rural. Buddy in Bucharest says bureaucracy’s manageable if you hire a local lawyer (~$200).

Estonia’s pricier but has e-Residency for easy biz setup. Hungary’s tax rates compete, Poland/Czechia have better infrastructure but higher costs.

I moved to Bulgaria last year and sorting out the paperwork for my business was way easier than I expected. I used https://yourcompanyformations.co.uk to set things up before the move, and it saved me a ton of hassle with UK admin and tax stuff. If you're keeping ties with the UK, they can help you keep everything above board while living abroad.

For running online business moving to another country? you could possibly rather move to a country that you love/wanna live and try starting an online business there.

Great to hear you’re considering Eastern Europe for relocating your online business. Romania and Bulgaria are indeed popular choices thanks to their relatively low costs of living, good internet infrastructure, and straightforward business registration processes.

In Romania, many expats appreciate the vibrant culture, diverse landscapes, and the fact that English is widely spoken in larger cities. Bucharest offers a dynamic urban lifestyle, while smaller towns and mountain resorts provide a quieter pace of life. Bulgaria has similar advantages, with Sofia and Plovdiv being attractive hubs for entrepreneurs.

Both countries are part of the EU, which makes travel and business connections easier, and they each have growing tech and startup communities that can be helpful if you’re looking to network.

And since you’re open to recommendations: for a mix of work-life balance and relaxation, I’d suggest checking out Predeal in Romania. It’s a beautiful mountain town, and Elexus Hotel offers a spa and swimming pool, perfect for unwinding after busy workdays.

You are definitely looking in the right places!

As a remote worker myself, I can tell you that Romania has some of the fastest internet in Europe (honestly, it puts the UK to shame).

If you are looking at Romania, don't just stick to Bucharest. Check out Cluj-Napoca—it’s a huge university hub with a great tech scene and English is widely spoken. For Bulgaria, Plovdiv is a favorite among nomads I know because it's chill, walkable, and super cheap compared to Western Europe.

Good luck with the planning!
