Milan-Naples late trip advice

OWL from Milano

Hi everyone,

I know it’s a bit late, but I thought I’d still ask.

At the beginning of April I’m visiting Milan and the San Siro (Meazza) stadium for the third time.

Last year I flew twice from Warsaw to Milan Bergamo Airport — there’s a comfortable 6 a.m. flight, so by around 9 a.m. I’m already in Milan city center. This time I’m planning something a bit different: start the trip on Sunday, April 5, watch the Inter–Roma game, stay overnight, and then around 14:00 fly to Naples to see the Napoli–Milan match the next day (April 6).

On April 7 I plan to spend some time exploring Naples, eat a lot of good food, and then catch a 17:30 flight back to Warsaw.

I also really like Bergamo, so I’m thinking about spending half of the first day there, visiting one of my favorite restaurants, and then heading to Milan. I usually stop in Bergamo before flying from Milan Bergamo Airport, so it kind of feels like part of the tradition.

So I have a few questions:

I know restaurants in Italy usually don’t open in the morning and tend to start serving food around 13:00–14:00. Do you have any ideas for things to do in Bergamo? I’ve already visited the old town twice, and I’m not sure it would fill 5–6 hours again. Maybe it’s better to skip Bergamo and go straight to Milan?

And any tips for Naples — what to eat, what to see, and which areas are good to stay in? I’ll probably book an Airbnb or hotel. I’ve heard Naples can be a bit rough, but I’m a reasonably confident solo traveler .

Hi,

It appears that a football & food experience would be great, based on what I've heard.

If you have already been to Bergamo's historical area a couple of times then spending that much time there may be excessive [5 - 6 hours]. If you wish to go and relax for a day, there are a few suggestions for ways to spend your time there. These could include:

1. Ordering a long lunch at your favourite cafe
2. Using a funicular to take in some beautiful views while enjoying a cup of coffee
3. Walking along the city wall or sitting at your cafe

That being said, I believe that it would be better for you to visit Milan sooner rather than later.
Visiting Naples would be a great option for someone who enjoys local food and an energetic atmosphere. A few examples of food you could try are:

Pizza, Sfogliatella , Espresso, & Street food

For sightseeing, there are many great sights, including:
-The historic city centre
-Coastline
-Pompeii (if you have time).

I would recommend you stay in the Cento Storico, Toledo, or Chiaia area.
You may find it a bit crazy in Naples but that is part of Naples' charm. Just use caution as a single traveler (especially at night).

Enjoy your time at the matches, it will be an incredible experience!
