A few days in Paris – local areas and things to do beyond main sights?

I’ll be spending a few days in Paris at the end of summer and looking for some local areas, cafes, or spots that are nice to explore outside the main tourist places. Any neighbourhoods or simple ideas worth checking out?

If you want to experience Paris beyond the usual tourist spots, focus on neighborhoods where locals actually spend time.

Start with Le Marais, great for casual walks, small boutiques, and cozy cafés tucked into quiet streets. For a more relaxed vibe, head to Canal Saint-Martin, where you can walk along the canal, grab a coffee, and enjoy a slower pace.

You can also explore the quieter side of Montmartre just move away from the crowded areas, and you’ll find charming streets that feel almost village-like. If you enjoy green spaces, Parc des Buttes-Chaumont is a beautiful, less touristy park with great views.

Simple tip: don’t plan too much, pick a neighborhood, walk around, stop at a random café, and just enjoy the atmosphere. That’s when Paris feels the most authentic.
