Where Should I Stay Near Disney World for a Family Trip?

I’m planning a Disney World trip with my family and trying to figure out the best area to stay. We want somewhere close enough to the parks without paying the premium prices of some Disney resorts. Free breakfast, parking, a good pool, and family-friendly rooms would be a big plus. I’ve been looking at hotels around Flamingo Crossings Town Center because they seem convenient for Disney but I’m not sure how they compare with other areas. For families who have stayed off-property, which location and hotel type worked best for you? I’d especially appreciate advice about transportation and overall value.

When you come to Walt Disney World with a family, my top recommendation is the Lake Buena Vista or Disney Springs areas. They're close to the theme parks without being on site as a Disney resort. Or if you're traveling with a larger family, consider using Kissimmee for a family suite or holiday rental.

If you are staying for a few days and you are on a tight budget, it may be worth staying at a Disney resort such as Pop Century, as you will get free Disney bus, Skyliner access and longer hours in the parks on certain days. If staying off-site, double check the transfer, as some hotels do have shuttle buses that only operate at certain hours.

If there's one tip it's not to underestimate how much time travel takes between the parks. If you're there for more than a day spread out your parks during the trip and plan one park per day. Also look at the total cost of lodging, transportation, parking and park admission fees.

Flamingo Crossings seems like a good option for families wanting to save money without staying too far from Disney. I’d look at family suites with free breakfast and parking, since those extras can add up quickly. Just check shuttle schedules and whether they run to all the parks, as having a rental car can make things much easier. I’d compare the total cost, including transport and parking, rather than just the nightly rate
