For instance, lets see how ready we are to travel in Norway

Planning a trip to Skien, Norway, and exploring the best things to do in the area involves several key steps. Here's a guide to help you plan your trip effectively:
1. Set Your Travel Dates:

  • Determine when you want to visit Skien. Consider factors like weather, local events, and personal preferences.
2. Create a Budget:

  • Establish a budget that includes expenses such as accommodation, transportation, food, activities, and souvenirs.
3. Research Skien:

  • Gather information about Skien, its attractions, and its culture.
  • Research the best time to visit for the activities you want to do.
4. Book Flights and Accommodation:

  • Find and book your flights to Norway, considering airports like Oslo Gardermoen (the largest international airport) or Sandefjord Airport Torp.
  • Reserve accommodation in Skien. Options range from hotels and hostels to vacation rentals. Booking.com, Airbnb, and hotel websites are helpful resources.
5. Create an Itinerary:

  • Plan your daily activities based on your interests and the best things to do in Skien. Be sure to include some flexibility in your schedule.
  • Consider visiting attractions like the Henrik Ibsen Museum, Skien Church, Telemark Canal, and Brekkeparken.
6. Transportation:

  • Research transportation options within Skien and to nearby attractions. Rental cars, public buses, and taxis are commonly used.
  • If you plan to take the Telemark Canal cruise, check schedules and book tickets in advance if necessary.
7. Travel Insurance:

  • Purchase comprehensive travel insurance that covers potential medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and lost belongings.

Couple of tips:

1. Getting fee-free debit or credit cards from home. So you avoid your bank’s side of the fees. You can get Revolut but also get Monzo and Wise and N26... so you can use all of their limits

2. Finding the fee-free or lower-fee ATMs abroad. You can use the ATM Fee Saver mobile app to find such ATMs when I am travelling abroad. It also gives withdrawal limits so I usually withdraw the highest amount ATM can give me to save on fees. This was you avoid the ATM side of the mandatory fee, if there is one

3. Declining conversion when the swipe machine or the ATM gives you the option. This was you avoid the “optional” extra fee of the swipe machine or ATM, if it has one

4. Using debit card at ATMs instead of Credit cards (because cash withdrawal from credit cards have much higher fee as it is considered a cash advance)

5. Not swiping credit cards abroad unless absolutely necessary - those cross-currency fees can be very high
