I've noticed quite a few questions here about Vietnam entry requirements, so I put together a quick summary of recent updates that might help with trip planning:


1. E-visa


  • Available to citizens of many countries, fully online application
  • Processing usually takes about 3 business days — apply at least a week ahead to be safe
  • Valid for entry through multiple checkpoints (air, land, and sea)

2. Visa exemption


  • Citizens of certain countries can enter visa-free for a limited period (usually 15–45 days depending on nationality)
  • Important: visa-free entry doesn't mean you can extend your stay — overstaying is a common (and costly) mistake

3. Common application mistakes


  • Blurry or cropped passport photos leading to rejected applications
  • Entering the wrong intended arrival date (the e-visa validity starts from the issue date, not the arrival date)
  • Selecting the wrong entry checkpoint that doesn't match the actual flight/ticket

4. Visa on Arrival (VOA)


  • Only valid for entry by air
  • Requires an approval letter obtained before boarding
