Hi everyone!
Seeing a lot of new acceptance letters going out for Leeds recently! Since I spent my student years in the city (and still visit often), I noticed a lot of international students get confused about the dynamic between the two main universities: the University of Leeds (UoL) and Leeds Beckett.
Here is a quick breakdown to help you settle in, no matter which one you are attending:
1. The Campus Vibe
This is the biggest misconception. People think UoL students stay in one area and Beckett students in another. That’s not true at all.
The social life in Leeds is very integrated. Most of the modern private halls in the city center house students from both unis. So, whether you are searching for the University of Leeds accommodation near the engineering blocks or Leeds Beckett University accommodation closer to the Rose Bowl building, you will often find that the best options (especially for studios/en-suites) are the private providers that cater to everyone.
My advice: Don't isolate yourself! Living in a mixed building is the best way to expand your social circle beyond just your course mates.
3. The Library WarsDuring exam season, the libraries get PACKED.
It doesn't matter which uni you go to; everyone ends up at the same places. Pryzm, The HiFi Club, and the legendary Otley Run pub crawl are universal.
Good luck to everyone starting this year! Leeds is honestly the best student city in the UK (I might be biased, but it’s true).
Cheers!

1. The Campus Vibe
- UoL: It’s a classic "Red Brick" university. It’s huge, everything is on one massive campus, and the Parkinson Building is iconic.
- Beckett: It has two main spots. The City Campus is super modern (right in the city center), and the Headingley Campus is leafier and more historic.
- Insider Tip: Even if you are a Beckett student, you’ll probably end up hanging out near the UoL campus because that's where a lot of the best cafes and student bars are.

3. The Library WarsDuring exam season, the libraries get PACKED.
- UoL: The Laidlaw Library is new and fancy, but impossible to get a seat. The Edward Boyle is a classic.
- Beckett: The Sheila Silver Library is open 24/7 and is actually really nice.
- Secret: If you can't find a seat, go to a coffee shop in the Corn Exchange. The wifi is usually decent and it’s way less stressful.
