forum4travel Posting Rules & Community Guidelines
Welcome to forum4travel!
We want this to be a friendly, useful and enjoyable community where travellers can ask questions, exchange advice, share photographs and help one another explore the world.
By registering, posting or uploading content, you agree to follow these guidelines. They apply to forum threads, replies, profile content, private conversations and the Media Gallery.
1. Be friendly and respectful
Treat other members with courtesy, even when you disagree.
Personal attacks, bullying, harassment, threats, insults, discrimination and deliberately inflammatory comments are not permitted.
Healthy debate is welcome, but please discuss the subject rather than attacking the person.
2. Keep content relevant to travel
forum4travel is primarily a travel community. Posts should relate to subjects such as:
- Destinations and attractions
- Trip planning and itineraries
- Flights, airports and transport
- Accommodation and cruises
- Travel photography and equipment
- Travel technology and packing
- Solo travel and travel companions
- Digital nomad life and working overseas
- Travel experiences, questions and advice
General conversation may be allowed in an appropriate forum, but unrelated or disruptive content may be removed.
3. Post in the most appropriate forum
Choose the destination or subject area that most closely matches your post.
For example, a question about visiting Perth should normally be posted in the Western Australia Travel Forum rather than a general travel section.
Moderators may move a thread when another forum is more suitable.
4. Use a clear and helpful title
Your title should explain what the discussion is about.
A title such as:
Best time of year to visit Japan?
is much more useful than:
Help needed!
Clear titles make discussions easier to find through the forum search and search engines.
5. Search before starting a new thread
Before posting a question, please use the search function to see whether the subject is already being discussed.
You are welcome to add a useful reply to a relevant existing thread. Avoid posting the same question or content in several forums.
Duplicate threads may be merged, closed or removed.
6. Stay on topic
Replies should remain relevant to the original discussion.
A natural conversation may occasionally develop in a different direction, but when you want to introduce a substantially different subject, please start a new thread.
Do not repeatedly interrupt discussions, derail threads or provoke arguments.
7. Do not post spam
Spam, repetitive messages and content posted primarily to gain links, traffic, customers or search-engine visibility are not permitted.
This includes:
- Unsolicited advertising
- Repeated promotional links
- Affiliate or referral links
- Keyword-stuffed posts
- Copied or automatically generated low-quality content
- Posting the same message in several sections
- Contacting members with unwanted commercial offers
- Creating accounts mainly to promote a website, business or service
Posts and accounts created primarily for spam may be removed without notice.
8. Self-promotion must add genuine value
Travel bloggers, photographers, tourism businesses and other industry members are welcome to participate, but the community must come before promotion.
A link to your website, video or social account may be allowed when it is directly relevant and accompanies a genuinely useful contribution.
A short promotional message followed by a link is not considered a useful contribution.
Do not:
- Create threads solely to promote your business, blog or channel
- Post misleading recommendations for a business you own or represent
- Pretend to be an independent customer
- Publish affiliate links
- Repeatedly direct members away from forum4travel
Commercial advertising is only permitted with prior approval or through an official forum4travel sponsorship arrangement.
Please contact a moderator before posting when you are uncertain whether promotional content is allowed.
9. Be honest about commercial connections
If you mention, recommend or link to a business that you own, work for, represent or receive benefits from, clearly disclose that connection.
Do not post fake reviews, fabricated experiences or undisclosed promotional recommendations.
Advice should be based on genuine knowledge or experience.
10. Do not publish harmful or inappropriate content
The following content is not permitted:
- Hate speech or discriminatory abuse
- Pornographic, sexually explicit or adult content
- Graphic violence or deliberately shocking material
- Instructions encouraging illegal activity
- Scams, fraud or deceptive offers
- Threats or encouragement of harm
- Malware, phishing links or suspicious downloads
- Content intended to exploit or endanger children
Political discussion should only be posted when it is directly relevant to travel and must remain factual, respectful and on topic. General political campaigning or inflammatory political arguments are not permitted.
11. Protect your privacy and safety
Remember that forum posts may be visible publicly and indexed by search engines.
Do not publish sensitive information such as:
- Passport or identity document numbers
- Booking references
- Banking or payment details
- Private home addresses
- Personal phone numbers or email addresses
- Confidential employment information
- Another person’s private information
Be cautious when arranging to meet another member. Meet in a public place, tell someone where you are going and never send money to a person you do not know and trust.
12. Respect copyright and ownership
Only post photographs, articles, videos or other content that you created or have permission to share.
Do not copy complete articles from other websites. You may quote a short, relevant extract when you identify the source and provide appropriate attribution.
Uploading copyrighted content without permission may result in its removal.
When sharing your own photographs, check that they do not reveal private documents, personal information or people who reasonably expect privacy.
13. Share accurate and responsible information
Do your best to provide honest and accurate travel information.
Make it clear when something is your personal opinion or when details may have changed since your visit.
Important information concerning visas, passports, health, safety, border rules, insurance and local laws should be checked against an appropriate official source.
Do not knowingly publish false, misleading or dangerous advice.
14. Review AI-assisted content before posting
AI-assisted content must be checked by the person posting it.
Do not mass-post generic, inaccurate or automatically generated articles, replies or destination guides. Content should be useful, relevant and written or reviewed with genuine human judgement.
You remain responsible for everything published through your account.
15. Do not impersonate others
Do not pretend to be another person, business, travel company, government organisation or member of the forum team.
Usernames, profile information and posts must not deliberately mislead other members about your identity or commercial connections.
16. Use private conversations responsibly
Private conversations are still subject to these community rules.
Do not use them to send spam, harass members, request inappropriate personal information or make unsolicited commercial offers.
Members may report private messages to the moderation team.
17. Report problems rather than escalating them
Use the Report option when you see spam, abuse, suspicious links or content that may break these rules.
Please do not start a public argument with the member involved. Reporting the content allows the moderation team to review it properly.
Reports are private and should include a brief explanation of the concern.
18. Follow moderator instructions
The forum4travel team may edit, move, merge, close or remove content when necessary to protect the community or maintain the organisation of the forum.
Depending on the circumstances, action may include:
- A friendly reminder
- A formal warning
- Removal or editing of content
- Temporary posting restrictions
- Temporary account suspension
- Permanent account closure
Serious spam, fraud, threats or deliberate abuse may result in immediate account closure.
Attempting to avoid restrictions by creating another account is not permitted.
19. Help make forum4travel useful
The best communities are built by members who participate positively.
You can help by:
- Welcoming new members
- Answering questions when you have relevant experience
- Sharing useful travel stories and photographs
- Correcting outdated information politely
- Thanking members who help you
- Reporting spam and suspicious content
You do not need to be a travel expert. Local knowledge and first-hand experience can be extremely valuable to another traveller.
Questions about the rules?
These guidelines cannot cover every possible situation. The forum4travel team may use reasonable judgement when reviewing content or behaviour that affects the safety, quality or enjoyment of the community.
If you are unsure whether something is appropriate, please use the Contact us page before posting.

Thank you for helping us keep forum4travel friendly, useful and welcoming.
