Best Food Spots Near De Montfort University (DMU), Leicester?

Hi everyone,

If you are traveling in Leicester or starting your studies at De Montfort University (DMU), you are in luck. The campus is right on the edge of the city center, meaning you have some amazing food options within a 5-10 minute walk.

Here is a quick shortlist of local favorites that you shouldn't miss:

  • Boo (The "Must-Try" Burger): Located on London Road (and a new one near Highcross), this is a local legend. They do proper American-style smash burgers. It’s fresh, reasonably priced, and way better than the big chains.
  • Kai (Best Brunch): Located in St Martin's Square (about a 5-minute walk from the DMU library). Their pancakes are famous in Leicester. It gets busy on weekends, but it’s perfect for a nice breakfast or lunch.
  • Grounded Kitchen (Healthy/Korean): If you want a break from fried food, grab a Korean nourish bowl here. It’s super popular with students because it’s filling and healthy.
  • Gelato Village (Dessert): Also in St Martin's Square. This is arguably the best gelato in the UK (they’ve won international awards). They use local milk and real ingredients. The pistachio flavor is incredible.
  • Narborough Road (The "World Food" Hub): Just across the river from the DMU campus is Narborough Road. It was once named the "most diverse street in Britain." You can find everything here from Turkish BBQ and Polish bakeries to cheap takeaways. Great if you are on a tight budget.
Quick Tip: If you are staying late at the library, the Food Village on campus is actually decent for a quick curry or pizza. If you are living in private DMU accommodation, exploring the city center is definitely worth the short walk!

Has anyone else found any hidden gems near the Castle Park area?

Cheers!

There’s a lovely little café tucked near Castle Park that does a cracking coffee and homemade cakes, definitely worth a wander if you’re nearby!
