Dawki, a beautiful town in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, is one of the most popular destinations for camping and adventure activities in Northeast India. Famous for the crystal-clear waters of the Umngot River, Dawki offers a perfect escape for travellers looking to enjoy nature, peaceful surroundings and outdoor adventures.

Camping in Dawki is a unique experience where visitors can spend a night beside the river, surrounded by green hills, fresh air and beautiful landscapes. Whether you are travelling with friends, family or your partner, it is an excellent way to experience the natural beauty of Meghalaya.

Best Places for Camping in Dawki

Shnongpdeng, located near Dawki, is one of the best places for camping. Situated along the Umngot River, it offers beautiful riverside camping spots where visitors can enjoy scenic views and peaceful surroundings. Several local operators provide camping facilities with tents, basic amenities and food arrangements.

Another popular option is camping near the riverbanks, where travellers can enjoy the beautiful landscape and spend quality time close to nature.

Activities to Enjoy While Camping

Camping in Dawki is not just about spending a night outdoors; it also offers several exciting activities. Visitors can enjoy boating on the crystal-clear Umngot River, kayaking, ziplining, cliff jumping and swimming in designated safe areas.

During the evening, travellers can relax by the riverside, enjoy a campfire where permitted and spend time with friends under the beautiful night sky. Watching the sunrise over the river is another memorable experience.

Best Time for Camping in Dawki

The best time for camping in Dawki is generally from October to April, when the weather is pleasant and suitable for outdoor activities. During this period, the river is often clearer, making boating and sightseeing enjoyable. Monsoon months bring heavy rainfall, which can affect camping and water activities.
You can hire a Guwahati to Shillong Taxi and reach Dawki

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Carry warm clothes, especially during winter.
  • Book your campsite in advance during peak tourist seasons.
  • Follow safety instructions during water activities.
  • Avoid littering and keep the riverside clean.
  • Respect local traditions and the natural environment.

Conclusion

Camping in Dawki is a wonderful way to experience the natural beauty of Meghalaya. From riverside tents and crystal-clear waters to exciting adventure activities and peaceful evenings, every moment offers something special. If you are planning a trip to Meghalaya, make sure to include Dawki and nearby Shnongpdeng in your travel itinerary for an unforgettable camping experience.

Planning a ride through Nepal's Mustang region is exciting, but understanding the permit process is essential before you begin. Whether you are joining a Mustang Nepal Motorcycle Tour from India or planning a self-guided ride, carrying the correct documents ensures a smooth journey through this protected Himalayan region.

Which permits do you need for a Mustang Valley tour?

If your route covers only the Lower Mustang region, you generally need the following:
  • Passport with a valid Nepal entry visa
  • Motorcycle registration and driving licence
  • Vehicle documents and insurance if entering Nepal with your own bike
  • An ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit) for protected areas
  • A TIMS card is generally not required for riders on the standard Lower Mustang Motorbike Tour, but it may apply in certain trekking situations.
If you plan to continue into Upper Mustang, an additional Restricted Area Permit is mandatory and must be arranged through an authorized travel agency.

How can you arrange these permits?

Most riders booking a Bike Trip to Nepal from India through an experienced tour operator have all permit formalities handled in advance. This includes guidance on border documentation, conservation permits, route planning, and local regulations.
Choosing a professionally guided Mustang motorcycle tour helps you avoid paperwork delays and lets you focus on enjoying Nepal's dramatic mountain roads, traditional villages, and unforgettable Himalayan landscapes. Brahmand Tour will take care of all the permits and paperwork for Upper and Lower Mustang areas so you can have a hassle-free experience. The permit cost is $500 for 10 days and is included in the package.

Hi everyone,

Private jet travel is something that often raises a lot of questions, especially for people who have only travelled on commercial airlines.

I'm interested in hearing from people who have experience with private flights in the UK.

A few things I'd like to discuss:

  • Which airports are most convenient for private flights around London?
  • How far in advance should you arrange a charter?
  • What are the main differences between light jets and midsize jets?
  • Is private flying practical for shorter UK and European trips?
  • What should first-time passengers look for when comparing charter options?
I think there are quite a few details that people don't usually consider until they start looking into private aviation. Would be interesting to hear some first-hand experiences.

Hi everyone,

I'm planning my first trip to Malaysia and would love some advice from travellers who have visited. I'm interested in exploring Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi and Penang and would like to know which months offer the best overall experience.

I'm especially interested in the best time for beaches, sightseeing, local food, and exploring cities while avoiding heavy rainfall.

I would really appreciate any recommendations about travel months, suggested routes, and tips for a first-time visitor to Malaysia.

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a trip to London later this year and have been researching transportation options. While public transport in London seems excellent, I've noticed that many travelers recommend using a London chauffeur service for airport transfers, business trips, and even sightseeing.

For those who have used a chauffeur service in London:

  • Was it worth the extra cost compared to taxis or ride-sharing apps?
  • Which occasions justify hiring a chauffeur?
  • Are chauffeur services reliable for Heathrow and Gatwick airport transfers?
  • Can they save time when visiting multiple attractions in a single day?
  • What type of vehicles are typically provided?
I’m particularly interested in hearing from travelers who have used a chauffeur service for family vacations, corporate travel, or special occasions.

Looking forward to your experiences and recommendations!

Travel Photography Tips, Photos & Best Photography Locations

Travel Photography – Share Your Photos, Tips & Favourite Locations

Travel photography is one of the best ways to bring a journey home with you. A great travel photo can capture far more than just a destination — it can preserve the atmosphere of a busy street, the colours of a sunset, the character of a local market, an incredible landscape or one of those unexpected moments that becomes the highlight of a trip.

This thread is for travel photographers of every experience level, whether you travel with a professional DSLR or mirrorless camera, a compact camera, a drone, a GoPro or simply your smartphone.

We'd love to see your photographs and hear the stories behind them.

Share Your Favourite Travel Photos

Have you taken a photograph you're particularly proud of?

Post it here and tell us:

  • Where was the photo taken?
  • What country, city, attraction or location were you visiting?
  • What camera or smartphone did you use?
  • Which lens did you use, if applicable?
  • What camera settings worked for the shot?
  • Was it taken at sunrise, sunset, during the day or at night?
  • Did you edit the photograph afterwards?
  • What made that particular place or moment memorable?
Adding a little information about your photo makes your post much more useful to other travellers who may be planning to visit the same destination.

Best Places for Travel Photography

Some destinations almost seem designed for photographers.

Maybe you've photographed the dramatic landscapes of Iceland or New Zealand, the beaches of Australia, the historic streets of Italy, the temples of Japan, wildlife in Africa, the mountains of Switzerland, or the bright lights of New York, London or Tokyo.

Where have you found the best travel photography locations?

Share your favourite:

Landscapes and viewpoints
Beaches and coastlines
Cities and architecture
Wildlife photography locations
Street photography destinations
Sunrise and sunset locations
Night photography locations
Hidden photographic locations away from the tourist crowds

If there's a particular viewpoint, walking trail, street or location that produced a fantastic photograph, tell other travellers about it.

Smartphone Travel Photography

You don't need expensive camera equipment to take great travel photographs.

Modern smartphones can produce excellent images, and for many travellers the best camera is simply the one they always have with them.

If you mainly use an iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel or another smartphone, share your tips for getting better travel photos.

Do you shoot in RAW? Use portrait mode? Adjust exposure manually? Carry a small tripod? Use editing apps such as Lightroom or Snapseed?

We'd particularly like to see examples of great travel photographs taken entirely on a phone.

Travel Photography Tips

This is also the place to exchange advice and learn from other travellers.

Topics can include:

  • Choosing the best camera for travel photography
  • DSLR vs mirrorless vs smartphone cameras
  • The best lenses for travelling
  • Landscape photography techniques
  • Street photography
  • Wildlife photography
  • Night and low-light photography
  • Sunrise and sunset photography
  • Portrait photography while travelling
  • Drone photography
  • Composition and the rule of thirds
  • Using natural light
  • Camera settings and exposure
  • Travelling with camera equipment
  • Protecting cameras from rain, sand and extreme weather
  • Photo storage and backups while travelling
  • Lightroom and photo editing tips
Beginners are very welcome too. If there's something you don't understand, ask your travel photography questions here and another member may be able to help.

✈️ Tell the Story Behind the Photograph

Some of the best travel photographs aren't technically perfect.

They're special because of the story behind them.

Perhaps you got up at 4:30am to photograph a sunrise, stumbled across an incredible street scene, waited an hour for the perfect light, spotted unexpected wildlife or discovered a viewpoint that wasn't mentioned in your guidebook.

Those stories are part of travel photography too.

So don't just show us the photograph — tell us what was happening when you took it.

️ Help Other Travellers Discover Great Photography Locations

When posting a photo, include the destination or location name wherever possible.

For example:

"Sunset at Cable Beach, Broome, Western Australia"

is much more useful to another traveller than simply:

"Great sunset from my holiday."

Details about where to take the photo, the best time of day, how to reach the location and any photography restrictions can be especially helpful.

Join the Travel Photography Discussion

Whether you have one photograph to share or thousands sitting on your hard drive, we'd love to see some of them.

Post your best travel photos, share your travel photography tips, recommend great photography locations, ask questions about cameras and equipment, or simply tell us about a memorable photograph from one of your journeys.

Start by posting one of your favourite travel photographs below and tell us where in the world you took it.

Let's build this thread into a useful collection of travel photography inspiration, advice, destinations and real photographs from travellers around the world.

Came across this and sharing here, it might come handy. Travel eSim company Jetpac is launching Eterna, its no cost travel eSIM.

It seems this is launching in limited quantity on 3rd November.

It has two benefits I liked -

1. 100 MB data at no cost - 4 times a year.
2. Unlimited access to WhatsApp, Google Maps, Uber and Grab for life - even if 100 mb data is exhausted.

I have an upcoming trip to Bali, there I can test it. If you want to grab it too, check here on 3rd November - https://www.jetpacglobal.com/eterna
