What travel destination is overrated?

What travel destination is overrated? I often see certain places heavily promoted on social media, but sometimes the real experience does not match the hype. It could be because of overcrowding, high prices, long queues, poor service, or simply unrealistic expectations created online. At the same time, some destinations still deserve their popularity depending on what type of traveler you are.

In your opinion, which travel destination felt overrated and why? Was it because of cost, crowds, weather, or lack of things to do? Also, which underrated destination would you recommend instead?

I think Bali has become the definition of 'Instagram vs. Reality.' The photos of those jungle swings and 'gates of heaven' look peaceful but in reality you’re often stuck in 2-hour traffic jams or standing in a literal line to take a 30-second photo. It’s a beautiful place but the over-tourism has definitely taken a toll on the service and the vibe.

If you’re looking for those lush tropical landscapes but want a bit more soul and space check out Sri Lanka. The mountains in Ella are breathtaking the wildlife is incredible and it’s significantly more affordable and less crowded than the popular Bali hubs.
