Is Palace on Wheels Good for a Family Trip?

Hi all!
I’m thinking of booking the Palace on Wheels for my parents’ anniversary. They love heritage travel, and this seems perfect.
For anyone who has taken the journey—how comfortable is it for older travelers? Are the off-board tours well organized? And how early should I book the Palace on Wheels tickets? Any suggestions would help!
 
While it's a popular travel destination, so it would be a god trip, reagrding how well suitable it is, it's pretty much a long trip, so keep that in min.
