How to Spend a Weekend in Leicester?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been spending a lot of time in Leicester recently and realized it’s such an underrated spot for a weekend getaway. If you’re planning a 48-hour trip, here is a quick "lowdown" on the essentials:

1. The History Fix: You have to start at the Richard III Visitor Centre. Whether you're a history buff or not, the story of finding a King under a car park is mind-blowing. The Cathedral right opposite is beautiful too.

2. The Food Scene: For lunch, head to St Martin’s Square (check out Kai for brunch). For dinner, you can't leave without a curry. The Golden Mile (Belgrave Road) has the most authentic Indian food in the UK.

3. The Iconic Sights: The National Space Centre is the big one—great for photos, and the planetarium is world-class. If you prefer the outdoors, a walk through Abbey Park or along the River Soar is lovely.

4. Where to Base Yourself: Most visitors stay near the Highcross area for shopping, but if you are visiting friends at De Montfort University accommodation or looking for a more "local" feel, the area around De Montfort University is great. It's very walkable and close to the castle ruins.

Has anyone else been to Leicester? Any hidden bars or coffee shops I should add to my list for next time?

Cheers!

Great list! Definitely add The Case or St Martin’s Coffee Roasters to your list—they have amazing vibes for a weekend coffee break.
