Best spa town to visit from Prague

I really want to take a break from the city noise and visit a traditional Czech spa town. I've heard Karlovy Vary is the most famous, but is it too "fancy" for a casual traveler? Are there other options like Marianske Lazne that are better for just walking around and drinking the mineral water? I’m looking for something with beautiful architecture and maybe a nice park to sit in. How easy is it to get there for a day?

Karlovy Vary is the classic choice and for good reason!

The architecture there is absolutely stunning - all those grand colonnades and colorful 19th-century buildings make you feel like you've stepped back in time to the era of kings and poets. It’s not "too fancy" in a way that feels unwelcoming; you can just buy a little porcelain cup and walk from spring to spring tasting the different mineral waters (warning: some taste like liquid rust, but it's part of the experience!). If you want a mix of history and relaxation, it’s the perfect day trip.

I usually suggest taking a small group tour so you can also see the Moser glass factory or a local distillery while you are in the area. You can check the different tour options and click here https://alle.travel/en/prague/category/day-trips to see which itinerary includes the best lunch spots. Marianske Lazne is also lovely and a bit quieter, but for a first-timer, the "wow factor" of Karlovy Vary is hard to beat. Just make sure to try the traditional spa wafers - they are thin, crispy, and delicious when warm!

Karlovy Vary sounds like exactly what I was looking for! I love the idea of the little porcelain cups. I'll look into those tours that include the glass factory too. Thanks for the tip about the wafers!

Karlovy Vary is definitely a great choice. When I visited, I enjoyed trying the mineral waters and indulging in the tasty spa wafers. It's a unique experience you won't regret. Also, just as a fun comparison, relaxing in Karlovy Vary reminded me a bit of unwinding at Tabacon hot springs, which was a memorable and soothing experience. Enjoy your trip!
