Starting June 1, 2024, Machu Picchu will introduce three new circuits to enhance the visitor experience. Each circuit features different routes to explore various aspects of the ancient Incan city. Here are the details of the new circuits:

1. Panoramic Circuit (Circuit 1)​

  • Route 1-A: Montaña Machu Picchu
  • Route 1-B: Upper Terrace Route
  • Route 1-C: Intipunku Gate (available only in high season)
  • Route 1-D: Inca Bridge (available only in high season)

2. Classic Machu Picchu Circuit (Circuit 2)​

  • Route 2-A: Designed route covering major classic spots including the famous viewpoint, Guardian’s House, Sacred Rock, and Mirror Water ensemble.
  • Route 2-B: Lower Terrace Route offering a different perspective but including many of the same classic sites.

3. Royalty Circuit (Circuit 3)​

  • Route 3-A: Waynapicchu Mountain, providing an adventurous hike with stunning views.
  • Route 3-B: Designed route for exploring exclusive areas like the Royal Palace and Temple of the Sun.
  • Route 3-C: Great Cavern (available only in high season)
  • Route 3-D: Huchuypicchu (available only in high season)
These circuits are part of a broader effort to manage visitor flow and preserve the integrity of the site. Each circuit has specific entry times and visitor capacity limits to ensure a better experience and reduce congestion. What's New?​


New Circuit Routes – Machu Picchu is now divided into 5 specific circuits, each offering a different path and viewpoint.


Timed Entries Only – Visitors must enter at a pre-assigned time slot. Stay duration is limited depending on the chosen circuit.


Guided Tours Required – In most circuits, entry without a certified tour guide is no longer permitted.


One-Way Circuits – To reduce foot traffic and preserve the site, all circuits now follow a one-directional route with no backtracking allowed.




The 5 New Circuits at a Glance:​


  1. Circuit 1: Panoramic Route (Upper Platform View)
    Ideal for classic postcard photos and wide-angle views of the citadel.
  2. Circuit 2: Inca City Complete Tour
    Covers the most comprehensive areas including temples, water fountains, and the Main Plaza.
  3. Circuit 3: Royal Sector (Lower Machu Picchu)
    Focuses on sacred temples and terraces in the lower area.
  4. Circuit 4: Agricultural Zone + Wayna Picchu Access
    Includes the farming terraces and entrance to the Wayna Picchu hike (permit required).
  5. Circuit 5: Lower Route + Huchuy Picchu Access
    Great for a shorter hike with access to the Huchuy Picchu mountain.



Important Visitor Rules​


  • Tickets are non-transferable and date-specific
  • Maximum group size: 20 people
  • Drones, tripods, and large bags are prohibited
  • No re-entry once you exit the circuit
