Mardi Himal Trekking is a relatively new and less crowded trekking route in the Annapurna region of Nepal. This trek offers stunning views of the Annapurna and Machapuchare (Fishtail) mountains, as well as a chance to experience the local culture and hospitality of the Gurung and Magar communities. Here are some key points about the Mardi Himal Trek:
- Location: Mardi Himal is situated to the east of the Annapurna Base Camp trekking route. The trailhead is usually reached from Pokhara, one of the major tourist destinations in Nepal.
- Duration: The trek typically takes around 5 to 7 days, depending on the itinerary and starting point. The trek can be customized to suit your preferences and time constraints.
- Scenery: Mardi Himal offers breathtaking views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. You'll trek through dense rhododendron and oak forests, picturesque villages, and high-altitude landscapes.
- Altitude: While the maximum altitude on this trek is not as high as some other treks in the region, it's essential to acclimatize properly. The highest point on the trek is Mardi Himal Base Camp at around 4,500 meters (14,763 feet).
- Teahouse Accommodation: The trek provides teahouse accommodation, which means you can stay in local lodges and enjoy meals prepared by the hosts. This gives you a chance to interact with the local communities and experience their hospitality.
- Best Time to Trek: The ideal trekking seasons are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these times, the weather is generally stable, and the views are clear.
- Permits: Like other trekking routes in Nepal, you'll need permits to trek in the Annapurna region. Make sure to obtain the necessary permits, such as the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekker's Information Management System (TIMS) card.
