I am going to Iceland March 20th 2025 from the UK. I am looking at hire car rentals but I have seen mixed advice what type of vehicle to hire.. we are staying 30 minutes from Reykjavik, and planning to visit the Golden Circle, and local areas, most likely south of Iceland. I am aware winter tyres will be on to the vehicle.
Would a passenger car suffice? Or is a 4 x 4 recommended?
