ETIAS Start date set for 2025

The ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) is set to begin in 2025. This system will require travelers from visa-exempt countries, including the U.S., Canada, and Australia, to obtain prior travel authorization before entering the Schengen Area.
Key details:
  • Implementation Date: Expected to go live in 2025.
  • Application Process: Travelers will need to fill out an online application and pay a small fee.
  • Approval Time: Most applications will be approved within minutes, but travelers are advised to apply at least 96 hours before travel.
  • Validity: ETIAS will be valid for 3 years or until the passport expires.
The system aims to improve border security and streamline travel to European Union countries.
